For the curious angler

BC Snowpack by Region

Winter snow becomes next year's river flow. Pick a region to see how its snowpack compares with the 1991-2020 average, year by year since 1981. Vancouver Island has its own region.

■ 2026   ■ at or above average   ■ below average. Blank years had fewer than 3 snow courses with data. Survey dates with too little history for a region are not listed. Tap or hover a bar for the exact value and number of courses.

How this is made. Each bar is the total snow water equivalent measured at the region's manual snow courses on that survey date, compared with the same courses' 1991-2020 average (courses need at least 20 years of readings in that period). It is our own simple index from official data and will not match the River Forecast Centre's official basin index exactly, which also uses automated stations. The overview is generated by fixed rules from the numbers, not by a person or an AI model, and it does not predict fishing, spawning or fry.
